Sukaina
Apr 19, 2006
Until further notice, this is the last post I will be writing about Sukaina.
At present, all I have to give is anger – and it needs some time still to gestate and become constructive anger. (Anger, in and of itself, is not disrespectful.)
For those of you coming from Queen’s and looking for information: you will find no answers here.
But in the meantime, do ask your professors (they were all informed before the students), the administration, your dons, the student journalists, etc. Ask Hitchcock what happened and how we let it happen. Ask everyone you think responsible.
Talk about her.
Organisations never act decently – they act bureaucratically.

Thank you for writing about Sukaina. Though I never knew her, her death struck a chord within me, especially its suddenness and the unduly silence that came from the Queen’s community. Not many know of her passing, nor the circumstances.
I am just a stranger. Though I could go on thinking that it was just “the way life goes”, you are right: we all have to take responsibility in our respective ways.
Thanks again.

I only found out about this because of the brief update on the Queen’s Journal website…why are details about this tragic event nonexistent?
Edit: link added.

I think the prevailing opinion is that it is more respectful not to talk too much about her death – besides the expected memorial service. (An email notifying students about the service was sent out by the AMS, but not by Queen’s administration. This was also the only official email sent out to the students about Sukaina.)
The best people to ask would be Queen’s admin. VP Patrick Deane was at the service. (Hitchcock wasn’t.) They probably have their reasons, I just don’t know what they are.
Oh. And if it isn’t news, already: Sukaina was an international student.
And Hitchcock sent out yet another email yesterday about “Engaging the World.”
