Majority of Muslim's in the up country and sabaragamuwa moved there during the Portuguese invasion seeking refuge with Rajasingha of Kandy and the Seethawaka king respectively. So if you have lineage to Gampola you were living in kotte before the Portuguese came! And Kotte is very accessible to arab tradesman. My mother is also from Gampola and she is well versed in Arabic-Tamil. The term "Moor" is well known to be off Portuguese origin. It is accepted that the Sri Lankan Moors have no connection with other moors, and that the term was officially adopted to integrate an otherwise racially unconcerned society that holds religion above race.
